If you have a sense of humor and curiosity you might enjoy the new site added to my blogroll, Stuff White People Like. It alternates between being humorous, educational and a bit ridiculous. Apparently the author is a black blogger looking at white society and our traditions and peculiarities. Us, peculiar you say? This is like looking in a mirror only with another’s eyes. It is a pop anthropological study of whites, or more precisely yuppie whites. If you identify with the audience addressed in the Blue Collar Tour, much of this will not describe you. It might, however, describe people you know. You’ll see them, or yourself, as another cultural group sees you. I dare you not to laugh at yourself (or co-worker or prissy aunt).
Online for less than three months, this blogger has over 14 million hits, so he certainly doesn’t need my help in getting attention. With just less than 5,000 hits on Anhinga in about a year and a half, I am in awe. Just thought you might want to check out what everyone is reading.
My husband mentioned this website the other day and I haven’t had a chance to look at it yet. I’ll go now or I’ll forget again.
14 million hits in three months??!!! Wow.
I came across that site about two weeks ago. It’s worth a look now and then but I probably won’t be a regular reader. Not that I’ll be missed.
There is a mirror site called Stuff Educated Black People Like – or something like that.
I just noticed that you changed the title of your blog. I’ll change it in my blogroll. Where does anhinga come from or what does it mean?
I have grown very fond of the bird anhinga (snakebird) since living in Florida. Since I my blog has strayed from the focus of writing, it seemed right to give it a more generic name.
Boy oh boy, see how many times “Stuff White People Like” gets up around 600+ comments per post. I suddenly feel insignificant in the world wide Blogorama
Yes, it is a bit of a phenomenon, that blog, keep running into it. Kinda like Brittany Speers, famous for being famous, it’s a kind of spiral, everybody has to go look because everyone is going to look and round and round we go, to achieve this feat conspire with friends to repeatedly hit links and refresh to get on the list of wordpress fastest growing blogs then sit back and wait, kinda like that silly we has cheezeburger or whatever it was, they did the same thing,
Interesting theory. Any one who wishes to repeatedly hit refresh on mine is totally welcome.
Aha!!! A conspiracy…
Just gave you a couple of refreshes
“I can has cheeseburger” is even stranger than my blog. I notice it has gone from the fastest growing blogs & the White people one is there now
Thanks, Taz.
Yeah, suddenly everyone is talking about this blog.
I donno, the title turned me off a bit.
