I have a new granddog, an adorable bichon frise. My son, who gave his lab the great name Sprocket, is at a loss naming this elegant little girl. He asked if I would get help from my “clever, creative” blogging buddies. The name should be classy, as befitting her look. So what do you say? Any ideas out there?

Nameless One
Oh my goodness. She is soooo adorable. We have two bichon frise grand dogs. They are such a sweet, loving breed and just love children!
My suggestions: Honey, Sweetie, Precious, Katie or Nicki
Oh no! That’s what yours are? Jason fell in love with his girlfriend’s bichon and his other dog loves the companionship. I can’t wait to tell Jason that is what Larry has.
Oh this is fun…
Bichon Frise is a very french dog. Depending on how you feel about French names… (they might sounds snooty. Sprocket is awesome… a fraggle reference!)
Alessandra… is elegant. She’s such a little nip of a dog, maybe ‘Crouton’, or Jasmine… for the white flower.
‘Melisande’ means honeybee in french, and “Pepperell” (very french) means Piper.
To me, I’ll admit, she looks like a Mardi. She has more common sense in her eyes than her white fluffiness seems to allow for. Mardi is the French word for ‘Tuesday’—
I don’t know if anyone else would name a dog Tuesday, but it makes sense to me.
I love ALL your suggestions. Knew I would. I sent these on to my son, the final arbitor (sp). I have no idea how you came up with Mardi, but I trust your instincts.
Thanks a lot!
Mardi sounds perfect! (Just in case I get a vote.)
Trust Amuirin to come up with great names. She’s very good at that.
Mumphred — now that’s a great name.
Thanks, Neil. That’s very unusual. Your blog is very interesting. I’ll be back to peruse it more. Thanks again for the suggestion. I’ll pass it on to my son.
I wasn’t being entirely serious. In fact, you might see where I got the name from if you check out my Satan’s Poodle blog.
Thanks for clearing that up. I’m so glad you were not serious about the name. I tried to be tactful, but the name curdled and choked in my mouth. Thought perhaps all lapdogs in South Africa (is it?) were given that name.
NOW I understand. Very creative blog on Satan’s Poodle. Love the glowing eyed poodle — well, don’t really love him…
See?? Looks just like Robin’s fireworks mystery picture, doesn’t it??
Pretty pup…. but I’m stumped coming up with a name.
That’s exactly what I thought when I saw her fireworks, Norm. Maybe I had puppy on the brain. We are all stumped for a name, but have good suggestions to choose among.
My daughter and I were just talking girl names…I suggest Mercedes. Classy enough?
Must be mental telepathy. That name came to me out of the blue yesterday! Thanks.
Has Jason picked a name yet for his adorable puppy?
Not yet! The poor thing is going to think she’s a nonentity. I’ll let you know when the word comes down. I think for now he is calling her the same name as his girlfriend’s bichon, Apple. That is just so wrong. I’m working on him. So many good suggestions to choose from.
Yes, that’s so wrong calling her by the same name as his girlfriend’s bichon. So confusing for the new puppy.
Keep working on him, Mom
How about Puff? It’s not classy but she looks like a cotton puff.
Would you believe she still doesn’t have a name. I think he thinks she’s too precious to name.
Here are a few suggestions for that precious puppies name.
Willow,Monet,Jewels? Thats all I have for now, maybe one will be a hit.
We are strongly considering adopting a terrier. Because we have two much bigger dogs (70 – 90 lbs.) I am considering the name “Squirt” for the little terrier. I think it has spunk.
Mrs. O is, so far, noncommital.
What do you think of that moniker?
Squirt sounds very descriptive to me. I knew a tiny, Chihuahua once with the perfect name — Smidgen. It’s hard to beat that and I’ve never heard it again.
Hmm…. Whitey? Puffball? Fluffy? I’m really bad at naming pets.
Apparently we all are. The poor pup doesn’t have a name yet!
Love your beautiful site. I’ll have to explore more when I get the time.
Wow! Our two current dogs are named Ernie (for Ernie Kovacs) and Edie (for his wife Edie Adams). But I have a nickname for Edie–just kinda came about, spontaneously–and sometimes call her “Smidgen.”
Maybe because she came second, after Ernie, so she was our little one, for a while. If I’m calling her, after not seeing her for a while, she is Edie. but if we are walking together or doing something together, I’ll call her Smidgen.
I think it’s a good name–but whatever your son chooses, that’ll be the one your little heartbreaker will respond to! She’s very cute, and we should have more pictures.
The puppy FINALLY has a name. It is ROSIE. I have no idea where that came from, but it is feminine, jaunty and denotes a little petaled beauty, which she is in some fashion.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. So many good ones–maybe we’ll have to get more puppies.
