My grandsons and I rode over to the Mayfair Country Club last week to see something very special. The golfing group my husband played with for years decided even before Jerry’s memorial service to dedicate a tournament in his memory.
The plaques and trophies have arrived and the first winners have been engraved. They are both friends Jerry would be happy to see as winners.
Our family is overwhelmed with the love in this gesture from the guys Jerry enjoyed so much every Tuesday and Thursday. He played with them up until the day before he was hospitalized. I will remind them what he has said to them many times, “It’s just a game, guys. We’re here to have fun!” And he did have fun.
Beda,
What a wonderful honor to Jerry and so great you and the boys were there. I got tears in my eyes just reading. We know what a great special man he was and it is clear so many others felt the same way. Love to you……..Thanks for sharing……Debbi
What a wonderful tribute to your husband. You must be very happy and proud at such a legacy. A terrific power of example for the g’sons as well.
That’s very touching, A. You must be very proud. Tinged with a little sadness, of course, but very proud. and cool you got to go with your grandsons!
Thanks for all your comments. Our family is very proud that my husband was remembered this way. It means a lot to know I wasn’t the only one who knew how wonderful he was.
How wonderful to have your husband honored and remembered that way.
Beda,
Jerry was such a great guy. How wonderful that he is remembered in this way.
