In lieu of destined-to-fail resolutions I like to try new things in the new year. It seems fitting. So today I picked up one of the strange packages at the Publix counter where the Japanese man who makes them all day every day assured me it would be very good. Yes, I am the one person in America who has not tried sushi. WAS the one person in America.
What a way to start the new year! I chose California roll with brown rice. There was (artificial) crab meat, cucumber, avocado, seaweed and heaven. The green sauce (wasabi?) was bracing and I loved the slivers of ginger.
Okay, is this a better way to start the year than flagellating myself for things I never really intend to do? Finding new sushi restaurants I can do. Maybe that is as close to a resolution as I can get.
I don’t make resolutions either. To me, a sure way not to do something is to resolve to do it!
I like your trying new things idea! How often will you try something new? Weekly maybe?
Ummmm you gave me something to think about. I don’t think I’ll set a weekly, or even monthly, schedule. That would seem too much like a resolution, wouldn’t it? But just loosely throwing it out there that I will sporadically do something new will shake the year up a bit and make me grow. It will be fun to think up things. Riding the new zip line at the zoo will have to go on that list. Getting and learning to make use of a smart phone is next, though.
Best sushi places around here, like #1 Amura 2. Fuji 3. Sushin – You have ample places to choose from once you have crossed that Asian barrier. Yum, my family could eat sushi everyday!
Thanks for the personal reviews for my neighborhood. Can’t wait to try them. I think I have crossed that barrier. 🙂
You’re still braver than me. As much as some people love it, I can’t quite make myself try sushi.
But your yearly kick-off was a kick. I like that kind of resolultion- the sort that focuses on new experiences/adventures instead of looking at yourself and going, ‘What’s not good enough?’
Thanks, Amuirin. I know what’s not good enough. 🙂
