I don’t promise these are great photography, but they are a triumph for me. I finally caught a hummer on camera. Through a double-pane window and screen, but I caught him. This is the first time I have seen a hummingbird perch. They are always in a tizzy, flitting from flower to flower. This time he sat right down on my red pepper cage and waited until I got the camera. He wiped his beak back and forth on the wire like a chef sharpening a knife, then preened for a while. I’m in awe. So not good photography, but a great accomplishment for me.
Posing Hummer

Very Good! I have never seen a hummingbird stay still. You got a rare shot!!
Little Sister,

Thanks. I was thrilled. Jerry always wanted one to land on his finger. We got a Birds & Blooms mag and almost every time it showed someone with a hummer on their finger. I wish it had happened for him. Beda

Yay! I’ve never even tried to catch one on camera. I’m thinking of setting up a hummingbird feeder, though. If I do, I’ll give it a try.
Even better is to get a firebush plant (they love them!) or a penta. Not sure what grows in your area. My firebush froze last winter in a slight freeze, but came back. If you have one of these plants the hummers will ignore your feeder.
That is cool to the max – I so hope I get to even see one again!!!
Amy & Steve got to see a hummer today. That was its third appearance of the day. Just now it came again, then all of a sudden another one zoomed in and poked him in the butt with that toothpick beak and chased him off. I thought one looked different earlier. So at least two are availing themselves of the repast I set for them. If only they could share and get along!
P.S. Amy said the hummers in Costa Rica are much bigger!
hey
Zacky! You found my blog. Are you home or at school?
I think they are great, Anhinga! It’s hard to capture a hummingbird with a camera. Getting one to actually pose for you is pure magic.
Very cool! Congrats!
